eLITHE joined the CINEA clustering event “Efficient, sustainable energy use in industry: Unlocking potential in heat conversion and storage”

On May 28, 2025, the European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency (CINEA) hosted the first clustering event in Brussels, focusing on efficient and sustainable energy use in industry. eLITHE and other European projects presented their objectives and results in the session dedicated to “Electrification and Decarbonization of Heating.”

This workshop brought together experts, stakeholders, and project representatives, all working towards advancing the decarbonisation of industrial processes. The primary objective was to foster synergies, share best practices, and identify pathways for scaling these innovations to achieve industrial decarbonization targets.

A key highlight of the event was the European Commission’s (DG ENERGY) presentation on the Clean Industrial Deal, an adopted initiative designed to drive the transition to energy-efficient and sustainable technologies in industrial processes. The Commission outlined several key measures to accelerate this shift:

  • Ensuring access to affordable energy for all consumers, including industrial players.
  • Supporting the creation of lead markets for sustainable technologies.
  • Facilitating public and private investments to accelerate industrial decarbonization.
  • Embedding circularity and improving access to resources.
  • Strengthening global market access and fostering international partnerships.
  • Promoting the development of appropriate skills to support the green transition.

DG ENER also highlighted that, given the expected increase in grid costs for their future development, the Commission will soon publish recommendations for grid operators to ensure that tariffs can foster the deployment and use of efficient and sustainable technologies.

In addition to the discussion on electrification and heating decarbonization, two parallel sessions delved into other pressing topics: thermal energy storage and heat upgrading as well as circular heat and flexible industrial processes.

eLITHE’s active participation in this event underscores the project’s commitment to advancing innovative solutions for the energy transition. By working alongside other European projects, eLITHE is working to drive the adoption of technologies that will ensure a decarbonised industrial future.
